Facebook Tuned
Facebook Tuned

A piece of interesting news from the headquarter of Facebook. They have just proclaimed that Facebook has launched a new app called Tuned. This app will allow couples to text each other, share music, share moods, keep shared daily notes and send photos and voice memos.

What is the main purpose of this app?

Well, this app which is presented by the Facebook is mainly for couples and it can be used without a Facebook profile and displayed as a “private space” for couples to communicate.

However, it is not end-to-end encrypted and has the same privacy policy as Facebook, so the company can collect people’s data for targeted ads. It is currently available for iOS users only in the US and Canada.

As with WhatsApp, users add another person by their phone number. The app came from Facebook’s New Product Experience team, which was created in summer 2019 to create new social media services.

Who is the Target market?

Furthermore, It is clearly set on the smaller end of the market, especially adolescents and couples in distant relationships. It appears that Facebook hopes to move forward in our emotional lives after it expanded its dating service and launched a “secret crush” job last year.

A broader trend: on the surface, a two-voice social network, we know it sounds a little strange. However, this is not the first such app. There is a new breed of emerging social network that provides safe and intimate online spaces for a few select people. The idea is that they are less interested in likes and build-up of followers, and more about intimacy.

The NPE team, which was launched last summer by Facebook, has already created a meme making app, as well as a similar app to Pinterest. Neither of these got a lot of promotional love from Facebook, so it’s assumed the company won’t make a big push for Tuned either. Therefore, it is interesting to see Facebook publicly experiment with creating apps for smaller social network connections, as it did with themes, as well as closing friends on Instagram.
